Jenna Portnoy said; D.C. public health officials on Tuesday reported that a person with the measles recently traveled within the District while they were contagious after flying in from Minnesota.

The individual rode on an Amtrak train on March 19, walked through the concourse at Union Station and went to an urgent care in Adams Morgan a few days later, according to the D.C. health department, which is warning people of potential exposures. D.C.’s chief epidemiologist, Brittani Saafir-Callaway, said the person was not contagious when they flew into Reagan National Airport. D.C. health officials are in the process of contacting people who rode on the train with the individual and could have been exposed, but she cautioned vaccinated individuals not to worry. “D.C. has a very high vaccination rate for measles, so the opportunity for an outbreak in the District is very low,” Saafir-Callaway said. The individual seems to be recovering and has not been hospitalized, she said. The person was vaccinated, she said. Amtrak is reaching out directly to customers who were on the train to notify them of possible exposure, rail officials said in a statement. The individual was a passenger on the Northeast Regional 175, D.C. officials said. The train typically runs from Boston to the District
